A facility of economic importance for the region

City Airport Mannheim

More than ever, fast transport connections to individual economic centers play a crucial role in the competition to attract new businesses and secure their locations. Thanks to its central location in the heart of the Rhine-Neckar triangle, Mannheim City Airport, established in 1926, meets these requirements.

From here, all major European cities can be reached directly by air in a very short time. In recent years, Mannheim City Airport has created more than 500 jobs in the region. The airport facilities are of the highest technical standard and were largely installed or supplied by companies in the region.

SUSTAINABILITY

Out of responsibility for the environment and the region

Our commitment to sustainable air traffic

Current Fleet:
1 x electric aircraft tug
2 x Maxus T90 EV pickup

Operational profile: Taxiway operations, apron logistics, infrastructure maintenance, aircraft handling, fire department support

Objective:

  • Decarbonization of ground operations
  • Reduction of operating costs
  • Improvement of the environmental balance
  • Preparation for increasing traffic volume with electrically powered air traffic

Strategic goals:

  • Sustainability: Expansion of the fleet with additional e-vehicles
  • Safety: Integration of emergency e-mobility for fire department and technical teams
  • Future viability: Integration with e-aircraft infrastructure & charging infrastructure

Sustainable Energy at the Airport – Solar Power for Ground and Air
An important step toward climate-friendly aviation has already been taken: Several hangar roofs at our airport are equipped with modern photovoltaic systems. The solar energy generated from these systems is used directly – for example, to charge our electric vehicles, which operate emission-free in daily flight operations.

Surplus electricity flows into the public grid, thus making an active contribution to the energy transition beyond our airport.

But we’re not content with that:
Further roof areas are already earmarked for the expansion of solar systems.

With the planned increase in renewable energy, we are not only strengthening our independence from fossil fuels, but are also laying the foundation for a high-performance charging infrastructure for electric aircraft.

Our clear goal: to gradually transform Mannheim City Airport into a pioneer in sustainable mobility – both on the ground and in the air.

Mannheim City Airport – a hub for mobility and innovation
Regional airfields play a central role in Germany’s decentralized air transport infrastructure. They connect economic areas, enable rapid passenger and cargo transport, and at the same time create space for innovation – particularly in the areas of general aviation and sustainable mobility. As a regional airfield, with the support of all companies at Mannheim City Airport, we offer a wide range of aviation activities: from business aviation and pilot training to development flights, for example in the field of e-mobility in the air. Safety, efficiency, and environmental awareness are at the heart of our activities.

Our infrastructure is geared to the needs of modern aviation:
with precisely coordinated air traffic control, a ready-to-use airport fire service, efficient ground handling, and close cooperation with regional and national partners. As part of a sustainable transport concept, we promote the expansion of alternative propulsion systems, provide charging infrastructure for e-aircraft, and actively work on the future of regional air transport.

Due to its proximity to companies, research institutions and educational institutions, our airfield is not only a locational advantage for the region, but also an innovation driver for the aviation of tomorrow.

ALWAYS THERE FOR YOU

Fire Department & Technical Services

A well-thought-out package of measures ensures safety

Airport Fire Department

Emergency situations can arise at any airport in the world. At Mannheim City Airport, a rapid response team consisting of 16 firefighters, trained and prepared for all emergencies, is available in accordance with the high safety standards.

The airport fire department's responsibilities include aircraft fire protection and building fire protection, as well as technical assistance and first aid. Security tasks around the airport complete the diverse range of duties of the airport fire department personnel.

The fire department also handles tasks related to air cargo handling of hazardous materials. Four members are trained in this area to the PK 6 classification.

The airport fire department's operational area encompasses the entire airport grounds, including all buildings (terminal + hangars), movement areas such as the runway, taxiways, and parking areas, as well as other open spaces.

We are there for your safety at all times.

Technical Services

The Technical Services department is responsible for the entire technical area, from monitoring the approach system technology, the weather station, and the runway lighting to the maintenance and repair of the building services in hangars, as well as the terminal and office buildings.

A total of 24 hangars, some of them are insulated and heated, are available to our customers for storing their aircraft. A well-equipped fleet of machinery supports us in important activities such as winter maintenance and mowing.

One of our team's main tasks is refueling aircraft using a fueltruck with Jet A1 kerosene fuel and the stationary refueling system with kerosene and gasoline (Avgas 100LL and Mogas).

We also offer numerous services such as battery starting and forklift service, emptying and filling aircraft lavatories, and hangar cleaning. We also offer towing, loading and unloading of aircraft, and all types of assistance for our customers.

A well-trained and motivated team looks forward to meeting you.
