More climate protection in aviation: Alliance for sustainable aviation fuels gains momentum

Aviation is facing a fundamental change – towards greater sustainability and climate protection. Sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) are considered a key technology for this change. They enable a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions in air traffic and offer a realistic prospect for more climate-friendly aviation.

Against this backdrop, airlines, airports, companies and organisations from various industries have joined forces to form the Alliance for Sustainable Aviation Fuels on the initiative of the Department for Transport. The aim of the alliance is to strengthen the voluntary use of SAF, bundle existing initiatives and provide new impetus for the production and use of sustainable fuels.
The kick-off event for this took place on 15 September 2025.
