100 Years of the Mannheim Airfield—Our Anniversary Magazine Is Here

In 2026, we will celebrate a very special anniversary:100 years of Mannheim Airport. Since its opening in 1926, what is now known as City Airport has been closely linked to Mannheim and the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region—as a transportation hub and business center, but also as a center for air rescue, technical development, and innovation.

To mark this anniversary, we have now published ouranniversary magazine, “100 Years of Mannheim Airport – Tradition | Technology | Future.”Over eight pages, we take you on a journey through the history of the airport: from the early days of aviation in Mannheim, through key milestones, to current projects involving electric aircraft, sustainable fuels, and the future of aviation.

Of course, wecan’t leave out a look at our big anniversary celebration:On Saturday, September 12, 2026, we’ll open our doors at 10 a.m. Visitors can look forward to a varied program for the whole family—featuring insights into flight operations, flight schools, and clubs, DRF Luftrettung, the airfield fire department, hands-on activities, and a hangar concert to wrap things up. Admission is free.
